Getting Started with Ruby
This month we're going back to basics with an introductory level discussion on getting started with Ruby. We'll discuss the proper way to set up an environment for Ruby programming, including
- Installing Ruby (including ways not to do it)
- Installing and managing Ruby gems
- Using tools like Bundler and Rake
- Other elements of a good Ruby development environment
We'll assume the typical attendee is a programmer with experience in at least one other language but little to no experience with Ruby. Nevertheless, everyone from complete beginners through experienced Rubyists is invited to attend and might learn something.
Thanks to Agape Red for providing pizza for this meeting.
218 1/2 5th Street
West Des Moines, Iowa, 50265
This is in the heart of Valley Junction. The front door is usually locked during our meeting times, so park behind (west of) the building and enter there. The back door is at the top of the steps and has the address printed on it.
Wi-fi Internet access is available.
Btw, according to Levi, the only venue dictated rule is: Don't set your ass, beer, or pizza on the pool table.
